Skin care is something that many men overlook. There is no excuse for us to not take care of our skin. There are products on the market now that cater just to us, and we should be taking full advantage of them. Finding your way to a healthy skin care regiment isn’t that hard.
A few days ago a friend of mine asked what my facial cleansing routine was. She didn’t ask because my face was so looking so great. She wanted to know because I told her that after years of following a pretty good facial cleaning routine I had fallen off.
Some years ago I had gotten into the habit of washing my face twice a day with Aveno’s Skin Brightening Daily Scrub. This product was AWESOME. It left my face feeling clean and oil free throughout the day. It wasn’t too hard on my skin like some face washes can be, and I didn’t have to worry about it burning my eyes or leaving my skin dried out. Well, for some reason or another I stopped using this product and just went back to the old faithful soap and water method. There is nothing wrong with a regular cleanse of your face with soap and hot water, but if you want to get the most out of your skin and have a more polished look there are some steps that you need to follow. If have sensitive skin like me then you need to not only be taking good care of your skin, but also be aware of the products that you are actually putting on your skin.
So, after the conversation that I had with my friend I decided that it was time to start paying more attention to the products that I use on my face. I went back to my trusty Aveno face wash, and boy did it pay off! I started noticing a difference in my skin after only a few days. I also started drinking more water and started becoming more conscious of the foods that I eat which can affect my skin’s condition.
Here are four ways to get your face to a better, happier place.
Cleansing your skin is probably the absolute most important thing that you can do to make sure that your skin is up to par. It is very important to keep your skin moist and wash away excessive oil and dirt so your pores wont get clogged. Clogged pores are one of the main causes of breakouts. Find a good face wash that works for you, and don’t be afraid to use it a couple of times a day. You don’t want something that is too strong, but it should be able to break up the oiland dirt that accumulates on your face throughout the day. One of the best facial washes that I have ever used was Cetaphil. This cleanser is very mild and and has never irritated my skin.
If you want to get to the bottom of what’s going on with your skin, then you need to exfoliate. Sometimes gentle cleansers don’t get the job done. A good exfoliation a few times a week can get rid of the debris that your face wash and face cloth isn’t getting to. When looking for a good exfoliation product you should make sure that it has the coarse granules or micro beads in it to help smooth the skin out and release dirt from your pores.
When skin is properly moisturized it reduces the number of wrinkles and decreases the dryness and roughness of your skin. Moisturizing your skin should be a part of your daily routine before you even leave the house. When you moisturize you are reducing dead skin cells and also protecting yourself from the sun’s dangerous UV rays. Many products that we use on our face can be harsh and dry the skin out. If you use anything that has benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid in it then you need to use a moisturizer to balance out your complexion. If you want your skin to be healthy…you have to use moisturize.
4. Make Sure You Are Getting A Great Shave
If you are shaving yourself at home, or going to a barber shop to get shaved you should follow a few steps. Be sure to shave in a warm shower or put a hot towel (with steam) on your face for a few minutes before shaving. Use a quality massage cream or shaving gel that can easy be put on the skin. Your razor should be single-edged in order to protect you from irritation. If you want to eliminate the risk of getting ingrown hairs you want to make sure that you do not shave too close and shave in one direction. After you are done shaving you should dry gently with a towel and apply moisturizing cream to soothe the skin.
It is important to keep your skin looking healthy. Follow these steps if you want the best skin possible. The goal should be to keep your skin looking as young as possible for as long as you can. Your skin is usually a direct reflection of your overall health. Keep those pores clean and remember to moisturize on a regular basis.
